HW10: What we do – taking action

We're determined to keep taking action to ensure people can access the right health and social care for them.
Text ID: 10 years of acting. A small loudspeaker hovers over the final word which is underlined in pink.

For us, action is an important part of improving care for everyone. We research and listen, and then use what we’ve found and heard to fuel conversations as well as change.

We’ve brought your stories to the attention of people like the Care Quality Commission, sat on committees and working groups, and maintained relationships with service providers. This has led to things like staff training, better information provision, and service change.

We’re not an advocacy service, but we do what we can to make sure problems get resolved, whether that’s signposting you to the right place or finding the right person to hear you.

A word from our Chief Officer, Andrew Latham, about our mission:

“Healthwatch Trafford have been working on health and social care in Trafford for the last ten years. We have tried to ensure that the voice of the public/patient is heard, both by those planning and designing new services (or changes to existing services) and those delivering services. Our quest to improve the way in which services are accessed and delivered has at times been both rewarding and frustrating. We make sure that we raise issues of concern from the public; often these are listened to and acted upon but we recognise that at other times the resources are not available to make changes.

There is often a disconnect between the reality of a patient experience and how that experience is perceived by those working away from the front line. To be able to share patient experience with providers is a powerful and valuable tool in our arsenal and we will continue to strive for improvements in quality and the patient experience wherever possible.  We certainly would not have lasted ten years without the support of our volunteers, most of whom are Trafford residents with a passion to help make a difference. Thank you to them and everyone else that has worked with us over the last ten years and we look forward to continuing those partnerships into the future.”
